Job Description


DescriptionPURPOSE OF THE JOBEstablish, implement and maintain a Quality System in the laboratory in accordance with the required standards to ensure that the service delivered by the laboratory to mine/smelter operations is effective.SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

  • Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
  • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
  • Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
  • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status us
  • Perform LSBO, PTO, Near miss, MOC management plans auditing and action management on IMS
  • Focus and drive mini business target performance of the laboratory and related reporting against such targets
  • Participate in formal SHEQ Audits
  • Participate in Significant Incident investigations regarding customer complaints and non-conformance
  • Participate in Samancor Group 17025 Audits
PEOPLE
  • Ensure performance of personnel in adherence to the requirements of the quality management system of the laboratory
  • Evaluate personnel continuous competencies
  • Maintain Laboratory personnel training records
  • Coach, mentor and train personnel on various methodology implemented within the laboratory
  • Authorised to train reporting employees (ISO 17025)
CUSTOMERS
  • Ensure Customer Satisfaction
  • Monitor product specifications before authorisation of results
  • Drive performance against SLA targets
  • Investigate customer complaints - Liaise with group logistics, production, logistic personnel
BUSINESS PROCESSES
  • Supervise and monitor the implementation of the Quality system according to ISO 17025 requirements by all laboratory personnel (control charts, checklists and control work)
  • Maintain implement and control all documentation and analytical standards relating to the Quality Management System
  • Ensure the validation of all analytical methods and the evaluation of uncertainty of measurements for all elements.
  • Coordinate the testing of non-routine proficiency testing samples and evaluate proficiency-testing data.
  • Accepts responsibility as Technical Signatory for the laboratory results.
  • Have sufficient current knowledge of the method used, as well as the objectives of the test/calibration/inspection.
  • Be able to assess and interpret the data and act on any trends observed.
  • Ensure the quality of the results, necessary checks required by the quality system and be confident when authorising results or measurements.
  • Have comprehension of the Technical Requirements of the relevant International or National standard.
  • Be conversant with the ISO 9001 quality management system implemented within the organisation.
  • Control records and documents such as control work, checklists, competency declarations, SPC graphs.
  • Investigate root causes of non-conforming test work and do necessary corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor and evaluate internal quality checks continuously.
  • Act on findings from management review meetings as well as internal and external audits
  • Authorise, check, interpret and process daily results
  • Authorise test results and compile Certificates of Analysis as Technical Signatory for the laboratory
  • Prepare and analyse samples for continuous evaluation of TS (Technical Signature) competency as required by ISO 17025
  • Prepare CRMxe2x80x99s and ensure round robin of samples for certification
  • Be able to do all back calculations on all instrumentation outputs
  • Authorise to develop, modify and roll out procedures to ensure quality control measures are integrated into the laboratory processes

  • Sample Manager (Create templates, set up limits and create new users)

Knowledge:
  • ISO 17025; ISO 9001; ISO 14001; ISO 45001 and ISO 19011
  • Applicable legislation
  • In depth knowledge on ISO 17025
  • In depth knowledge on all main laboratory equipment, methodologies, calibration and trouble- shooting, first line maintenance (LECO, TGA, XRF, ICP, Potentio meters)
RequirementsMinimum qualifications:
  • Degree or National Diploma in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry
  • N3 studying towards N4
  • 3 years relevant experience
Additional qualifications:
  • Total Quality Management Certificate
  • In depth ISO 17025 implementation and auditing experience
