Ensure work schedule is handed to lab staff on daily basis and follow up actions are taken in support of quality and management systems.Personnel development

  • In-service training in order to develop and optimize skills
  • Continuous measurement of skills and identify shortcomings.

Performing tests
  • Organize and maintain throughput and performance standards through daily work schedules.
  • Control and measure throughput by ensuring turnaround times are adhered to.
  • Monitor and evaluate throughput and address deviations using the improvement system.
  • Take and implement corrective action.
  • Accurate registration, storage, retention and disposal of samples according to prescribed procedures.
  • Read samples on ICP, capture and import results into SLIMS and review results in SLIMS.
  • Performing routine tests on samples according to standard methods and procedures.
  • Performing tests on all quality control samples according to standard methods and procedures.
  • Accurately record results on QC charts and designated worksheets
  • Evaluate results and report any deviations from quality control norms immediately
  • Assist in sections when and if so, communicated too in doing task and analysis you have been declared competent for.
  • Operate instruments according to specified procedures.
  • Maintain log-books and worksheets indicating maintenance, working conditions and quality control measures
  • Ensure good laboratory practices are followed.
  • Always wear the necessary protective clothing.
  • Awareness of the dangers of chemicals used through the study of MSDS
  • Adhere to competency training program.
  • Keep workplace and equipment neat and tidy.
  • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements, procedures and protocols.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Planning of tests and evaluation of results
  • Liaise with leaf lab supervisor on all work schedules with respect to overtime.
  • Plan activities according to the sample volume, quantities received and required turnaround time.
  • Create SLIM worksheets and batches in advance.
  • Monitor and control stock levels of required chemicals and consumables.
Method modification and development and validation of new methods
  • Perform analysis and report results required for method and instrument validation.
  • Report shortcomings and deviations and perform communicated actions to implement and improve new and existing methods and procedures.
Quality System
  • Assist in the development, control and maintenance of system document.
  • Assist in performing internal audits according to the documented system.
  • Authorized technical signatory on fertilizer reports.
  • Responsible for control and maintenance of all section records.
  • Responsible for personnel technical competence through training of staff.
  • Responsible for physical resources:
  • Control instrument inventory
  • Equipment commissioning
  • Control of calibration and maintenance program
  • Control equipment register and instrument logs
  • Review of data from defect equipment
  • In-house repairs
  • Authorized to investigate and process nonconforming issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Authorized to investigate and process improvement request issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Responsible for control over monitoring, maintaining and housekeeping of accommodation and environment.
  • Responsible for all reference materials and standards required for measurement of traceability.
  • Quality assurance of analytical results
  • Authorized and responsible for control and interpretation of control charts
Managerial duties
  • Support operations and contribute to a positive staff moral in section.
  • Ensure working hours are recorded and adhered to.
QualificationsEducation
  • Grade 12
Experience
  • Full working knowledge of LECO, ICP and NIR
  • Relevant laboratory experience
