The Shift Supervisor OC has the Legal accountability with a 2.15.1 appointment in terms of the Minerals Act and Regulations and is responsible to ensure compliance to Legal requirements and Management specifics, and the completion of records pertaining to his/her area of responsibility, as stipulated by the regulations.We have high standards.   • Maintain quality working methods and sequences and work performances to support the continuance of the mining cycle
  • Inspection of high wall and forest areas and taking appropriate action in the event of noncompliance to legal and management specifics.
  • Inspection of demarcation, barricading off back areas, hazardous areas and abandoned workings and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics.
  • Assisting during breakdowns or emergencies and co-coordinating support from other disciplines
  • Encouraging co-operation and teamwork between maintenance and operational personnel
  • Monitoring material usage and ensuring that the use of reclaimed material is optimised
  • Arranging expertise for problems beyond the scope of existing resources.
  • Co-coordinating the activities of the haulage servicemen allocated to the area.
  • Monitoring contract work in area of responsibility
  • Interpretation and communication of production objectives
  • Verifying stock levels and delivering of materials and equipment
  • Utilising applicable system for the ordering of materials and equipment
  • Recording all specified inspections required by the Minerals Act.
  • Submitting all checklists or formal controls required for the operation of hazardous machinery and equipment
  • Checking attendance registers and maintaining records for time worked
  • Monitoring and advising on the ordering and procurement of explosives
  • Obtaining and recording daily/weekly production statistics.
  • Execute delivery the sustainability activities as relevant to discipline and set out in the Life of Asset
  • Plan to improve sustainability performance over time.
  • Deliver Sustainable Mining Plan commitments relevant to discipline.
  • Comply with environmental and social requirements as relevant to discipline.
  • Implement environmental and social risk mitigation techniques as specified in the asset risk management approach as relevant to discipline.
  • Effective two-way open communication with other team members
  • Encourage co-operation and teamwork
  • Supervise and motivate team
  • Maintain awareness of needs of area teams
  • Conduct meetings as required to maintain effective communication
  • Liaison with colleagues on maintenance schedules for the week/month ahead
  • Involvement in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Supporting the logistics process.
  • Continuous liaising with the Operations Manager regarding mining activities
  • Ensuring team activities support each other in the mining cycle.
  • Monitor and advise the teams on working methods and scheduling.
This role is at a band 7 level reporting to the Senior Shift Supervisor OCQualifications
  • Grade 12 with Maths & Science
  • Competent A Certificate
  • Valid Blasting Certificate
  • Driver License.
  • Shift Supervisor Certificate will be advantageous
  • First Aid Certificate
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
  • Previous Open pit experience will be advantages
  • Monitoring of benchmarks and identification of performance gaps.
  • Delivery of safe operational performance over 1-3 month time horizon.
