In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.As our Specialist Asset Health your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Safety, Health, and Environment
  • Select and allocate resources to ensure that work can be conducted safely.
  • Oversee 'working elements' (inspections, audits, PTOs, etc.) of the Safety Management System and comply as appropriate.
  • Ensure that critical controls in your area are functioning.
  • Implement and maintain compliance with Group and Site safety, health, and environment standards.
  • Ensure prompt investigation of all injuries, illnesses, and incidents.
  • Ensure that subordinates are competent in the safe facilitation of their tasks.
  • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions (when applicable).
  • Authority:
  • Stop unsafe work in any area - not just in your area. We are safety leaders.
  • Issue safety-related instructions to any employees or contractors at the workplace.
  • Initiate action, including training, against subordinates and contractors for their role in unsafe behaviour.
  • Performance and Delivery
  • Technical Directive:
  • Implement the equipment maintenance strategy to align with the production profile.
  • Enhance engineering discipline by providing quality work and feedback to the maintenance management system.
  • Mitigate production risks by managing them proactively.
  • Ensure quality control/ assurance during routine test work and contractor management.
  • Authority:
  • Review progress against the plan and make changes and adjustments accordingly.
  • Assign tasks to subordinates in line with achieving the agreed production plan.
  • Monitor and optimise work schedules.
  • Assign tasks to supervisors to meet required tasks and reporting.
  • Stop or redirect work not being executed according to quality standards or not being solved by the shift supervisor if needed.
  • Asset Health:
  • Act as a technical expert and the first point of reference for leading practices in Asset Health and Asset Condition Monitoring.
  • Provide on-site Subject Matter Expert (SME) input into condition and asset health practices and tactics.
  • Advise and assist the principal reliability engineer on developing and continuously improving the business Asset Health company strategy.
  • Participate in on-site asset tactics development processes to ensure they support the business Asset Health Strategy
  • Ensure that tactics and strategies are in place for online monitoring systems and equipment to be adequately maintained and reliable and that they provide accurate and timely information to enable the Asset Health team to be successful.
  • Review and provide assurance that the relevant systems and processes to ensure that the hardware and software infrastructure supporting the Asset Health team are maintained and reliable.
  • Ensure that the communication and collaboration between the site reliability, Planning/Scheduling and execution teams and the Asset Health teams is effective and seamless.
  • Ensure that the Asset Health team communicates the correct information at the right time at the appropriate levels within the organisation to enable the business to make critical decisions regarding the maintenance and reliability of HME mobile equipment.
  • Initiate and drive the Asset Health team's vision, strategy, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensure the Asset Health team can fulfil its purpose and deliver on set KPIs.
  • Instate suitable quality assurance processes to ensure the integrity of the output of the Asset Health team.
  • Facilitate the interaction between the Asset Health team and other departments such as IM, business improvement, process control, etc, as required.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and data-driven decision-making across mining operations.
  • Stay abreast of mining industry best practices and emerging trends in asset health monitoring to continuously improve the quality and relevance of the team.
  • Coordinate and develop dashboards for clear reporting/visualisation of asset and component health status.
  • People and Teams:
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure everyone is on the same page by providing information, actively listening, and responding to feedback.
  • Establish clear expectations and goals for the team to ensure that everyone is working towards the same objectives and that progress can be measured and tracked over time.
  • When changes to the plan are necessary, handle them in a way that minimises disruption to the team and keeps everyone focused on the end goal.
  • Monitor performance against the plan to ensure progress and any issues or roadblocks are promptly addressed, including identifying areas where improvements can be made and acting to make the necessary changes.
  • Set and enforce rules and standards of behaviour and address performance or conduct issues.
  • Providing training to team members to ensure they have the skills and knowledge necessary to perform their roles effectively via on-the-job training, mentoring, or other forms of development.
  • Identify staffing needs and ensure that the right people are in the right roles to support the team's objectives.
  • Manage the talent pool of employees to ensure that the team has the right mix of skills and experience to achieve its goals by identifying high-performing employees and developing plans to retain and promote them, as well as identifying areas where additional skills or experience are needed and taking action to recruit or develop employees with those capabilities.

  • Ensure compliance with the budget for the area of responsibility.
  • Evaluate and approve cost impacts in the area of responsibility and revise the budget accordingly.
  • Identify, communicate, and execute potential cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Authority:
  • Generate authorisation for expenditures.
  • Revise budget after receiving appropriate authorisations.
  • Take necessary action to correct misallocations.
This role is in Engineering & Maintenance HME/Plant (ENG) department on a band 6.12 level reporting to the Section Manager ReliabilityQualifications
  • Bachelor's degree /BTech in Engineering (NQF7)
  • SA Drivers License Code B
Technical Knowledge
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing teams and resources effectively.
  • Thorough understanding of condition monitoring principles and related practices.
  • Extensive experience and expertise in reliability engineering and asset management across all domains.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex data challenges related to mining assets using advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in analysing large data sets and extracting valuable insights to optimise operational performance.
  • Collaborative mindset and experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced mining environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of mining plants, heavy mobile equipment, and associated maintenance practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical insights to diverse audiences.
