The purpose of Technical Services Manager role is to oversee technical support, business support and business development assistance within the metallurgical mineral processing environment. The role requires a high level of expertise in metallurgical processes, strong leadership capabilities, and a strategic approach to business growth and operational efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Support
Provide Expert guidance: Offer expert advice on metallurgical and mineral processing techniques, ensuring that best practice and technologies are applied.
Problem Solving: Address and resolve complex technical issues that arise in the metallurgical processing environment, implementing long-term solutions to prevent recurrence
Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of metallurgical processes.
Setting up business processes and systems for early detection of possible technical issues, monitoring processes against best practice and contractual client requirements.
Training and Development: Oversee technical training and development of staff, develop graduate training programs, coach and mentor graduates
Direct all commission activities of new plants, projects and processes
Procurement: Assist Procurement with developing technical scope, evaluations and adjudication.
Business Development
Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategic plans to expand the business, increase market share and enhance profitability.
Client Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
Market Analysis: Assist in conducting market research and analysis to identify new businesses opportunities and trends.
Proposal Development: Assist in the development of new proposals for projects and attend client tender meetings
Partnership and Alliances: Establish strategic partnerships and alliances to leverage expertise.
Operations & Project Management
Ensure appropriate product offering and properly diversified business.
Ensure all projects are managed and executed according to best practices.
Ensure projects are structured, capacitated to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
Be the guardian of governance and compliance across all projects
Monitor the financial profitability and integrity of all projects across the business unit.
Timeously engage with clients on high risk, high value escalations, variations to ensure appropriate resolution balancing all stakeholder requirements.
Drive culture of operational efficiency and effectiveness
Drive project excellence across the division.
Operating System Management & reporting
Define operational reporting requirements and ensure appropriate management control systems are put in place to meet those requirements, including forecasts, plans, execution controls and monitoring, reports, meetings and forums, and corrective actions.
Set and agree performance standards for the regions and projects in the division.
Ensure that dashboards and trend analysis for projects and regions is implemented, understood and appropriately used for improved decision-making across the division.
Drive regional performance with the BU and Maintenance Managers, based on effective and valid data, reporting and trend analysis, to ensure each region performs across the spectrum of performance parameters, in support of holistic business unit performance, profitability and growth.
Ensure appropriate customer reporting systems, reports and forums are implemented, in support of customer relationship building and customer satisfaction.
SHEQ Management
Support the Ensure that a Zero harm safety culture across all operations.
Ensure that all regions and projects appropriately identify, manage and mitigate risks, ensuring that all operational risks within the division are appropriately and timeously addressed and reported on
Understand Client SHEQ requirements and always ensure full compliance
Participate in internal & external audits and VFL's
Team Management
Select and appoint competent and passionate people.
Provide leadership to subordinates, monitor and evaluate their performance
Provide leadership to subordinates, monitor and measure their performance and ensure discipline on all sites. Motivate staff to achieve their own as well as the company's full potential
Plan and drive capacity and capability building for operations, to ensure balanced delivery through people
QUALIFICATIONS
BSc Engineering or equivalent
Postgraduate qualification will be advantageous
EXPERIENCE
10-15 years' relevant experience in mineral processing
Relevant experience in managing complex projects with emphasis on contract, financial, risk, commercial and legal management; operational planning, safety and implementation
SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Excellent commercial and contract management astuteness
Solid understanding of the mineral processing business across all technical and commercial offerings Knowledge and understanding of all legislation relating to the FAMP business
Excellent management and leadership skills.
Negotiations skills - especially business, commercial and contract negotiations
Good Emotional Intelligence, Good verbal and written communication skills including commercial & business reporting Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including root cause analysis
Risk management across all functions, Operational optimization, effectiveness and efficiency Assertiveness & Resilience
