The role involves technical leadership and the ability to lift the overall technical performance of the engineering professional team.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide technical support and guidance to peers and other functional groups within the level of your expertiseProvide technical leadership in a multi-disciplinary teamIdentify and provide solutions to challenging engineering problemsDevelop and maintain relationships with clientsEnsure that appropriate technical standards and Quality Assurance (QA) requirements are adhered toApply a deeper understanding of engineering principles to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions to problemsPlan and resource projectsPrepare client reports and designs, as well as tender/contract documentation inclusive of BoQs and specifications.Assist in the management and training of staff including mentoringContribute to the overall management and profitability of the disciplineSupervision of drawing, project specifications and contract documentation production for assigned tasks in accordance with SMEC procedures and appropriate technical standardsBe a member of multi-disciplinary team in project deliveryPrepare expressions of interest and tender submissionsStrictly adhere to SMECs Management System (MS), quality standards and HSE proceduresKeeping abreast of latest techniquesMaintaining contact with wide local and international network of persons with similar interestsPublish papers or articles on projects or developments in the field of expertiseBe involved in relevant initiatives via the Innovation HubShare knowledge with (junior) colleagues, clients, students through the facilitation of workshops, lectures etc.Mentoring and coaching, both informal (e.g. project based), and formal (e.g. ECSA registration, supervising students)Assist Finance Manager as requestedRecommended Qualifications, Skills, and ExperienceBachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree from accredited university/collegeProfessional Registration with ECSARelevant professional membershipsMinimum 10 years of practical experience in the relevant disciplineExtensive knowledge of engineering design issues and analysis methodsAbility to identify and provide solutions to challenging engineering problemsExcellent written and oral communication skillsProject management and leadership skillsAbility to use analytical tools including commercial softwareGood interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environmentKnowledge of obligations under the current SMEC MSSound knowledge of Quality Assurance (QA)Extensive knowledge of engineering materials and their applicationsKnowledge of contractual matters pertaining to constructionSound knowledge of OHS and environmental regulationsSTRONG ANALYTICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE IN DESIGNWater, sewer, stormwater, roads and related civil infrastructure design (including solid waste)Structural engineering knowledge would be beneficialMunicipal and building engineering projects (Private and public clients)Contract managementLabour intensive constructionHow to ApplyAll applications must be submitted online.
