BSc Degree and Forensic Science Honours Degree, with emphasis on human osteology and human anatomy.
Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
Good communication and interpersonal skills which contribute to the promotion and development of the Division within the University.
Two years' experience in a Forensic Science Mortuary environment.
Experience in performance of LODOX imaging of human remains will be an advantage.
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
Taking delivery of and processing skeletal/decomposed/charred human remains admitted for Forensic Anthropological examinations.
Implementing and maintaining an inventory of all cases admitted for Forensic Anthropological Analyses.
Managing and performing radiological imaging of remains using LODOX scanning technology.
Maintaining health and safety standards of the Forensic Entomology and Anthropology Laboratories.
Assisting with the Divisional Honours Degree and research endeavours, as required.
Providing relevant procurement and administrative support when necessary.
KEY FUNCTIONS
Taking delivery of skeletal/decomposed/charred human remains admitted for Forensic Anthropological analysis, ensuring the completion of all required chain of custody forms.
Implementing and maintaining of the inventory of the skeletal remains in the Forensic Anthropology admissions fridge, as well as in the evidence room.
Preparing and cleaning of skeletal/decomposed/charred human remains in preparation for Forensic Anthropological analysis, including taking LODOX images of the skeletal remains.
Assisting with- and participating in the examination of skeletal remains, including preparation of preliminary measurement reports as well as photography.
Maintaining Occupational Health and Safety standards of the Forensic Anthropology and Entomology Laboratories, ensuring that they are in a suitable state of cleanliness and order. Supporting students and doctors in research endeavours including technical assistance where relevant.
Assisting in the co-ordination and organization of the Division's Forensic Science Honours programme, as well as occasional teaching and research supervision of Forensic Science Honours students.
Providing relevant academic administrative support to the Division and obtaining quotes for relevant equipment or items as and when necessary.
Performing any other tasks or activities which fall within the general functioning of the Division as determined by the Academic Head of Division
