A minimum of a B Com degree or related B Degree in Logistics, Transport, Business Management or Finance.
A minimum of 5 to 8 years logistics experience, and owner driver management would be an added advantage.
Business Planning Execution and Management of Operations
Lead the execution of the Route to Market strategy through the effective implementation of the owner driver control centre and external third-party plans (role has a 12-month outlook with medium-term business impact).
Collaborate with the Distribution Services Manager to implement interventions aimed at increasing productivity in line with the RTM strategy.
Provide guidance and influence Warehouse and Distribution managers to achieve optimal utilisation of owner drivers to meet the Route to Market strategy requirements.
Develop and implement transportation execution plans (i.e., aimed at improving driver turnaround and working times; driver customer service level etc.) and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
Address operational challenges by implementing corrective actions to mitigate transportation issues (adjust loads in collaboration with the Distribution Planning Managers based on demand plan targets).
Oversee day-to-day operations of the transportation logistics control centre, ensuring efficient and timely movement of goods and provide guidance on mitigations to meet business requirements.
Monitor performance metrics (i.e., LIC, Owner Driver Execution and Third-Party External Contractor service levels) by analysing the service provider processes, identifying gaps in the operating model, and guiding on mitigations.
Oversee the execution of the owner driver budgets and allocation of spend by providing inputs into the budget and guiding on business requirements. This includes the monitoring of inventory levels to reduce excess costs.
Lead the governance relating to owner driver processes, policy, legal requirements, contracts, and payments.
Ensure the effective management of the Owner Driver processing team.
Conduct the CAP assessment for the Distribution fraternity.
Continuous Improvement
Analyse Distribution/Transportation data to identify trends, forecast demand, and plan resource allocation, by tracking key KPIs such as on-time delivery, fill rates, and inventory turnover to improve business performance.
Develop strategic partnerships with carriers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure cost-effective transportation solutions and influence process improvements to drive cost reduction.
Optimize transportation routes and networks to minimize costs and transit times.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive logistics efficiency and effectiveness.
Stay abreast of industry advancements and technology to maintain a competitive edge in Distribution execution and Transport management, including driving the sustainability agenda for The Company.
Resolve customer issues and complaints by investigating and providing guidance on mitigations effectively to achieve improved customer service.
Compliance and Quality Control
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations governing all transportation activities (i.e., Road Transport Management system), including provision of inputs to customers regarding customs regulatory compliance.
Monitor carrier performance to ensure adherence to service level agreements and quality standards by providing prompt feedback to customers to achieve performance improvement.
Develop and maintain a quality management system for distribution transportation operations to ensure that products are handled, stored, and transported according to industry standards.
Ensure that Owner Drivers, distribution transportation processes, and carrier compliance audits are expedited annually and that findings are addressed and closed out by the relevant operational areas (Regions). This includes providing evaluation criteria for the audits.
Ensure that safety and risk processes are fully complied with by all external contractors and report on deviations to the relevant Owner Drivers.
