Unit Manager – Neonatal Icu

Job Description


Our client in the Healthcare industry is currently looking for a Unit Manager - Neonatal ICU, in Sebokeng, Gauteng.Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organise multiple work outputs by assigning tasks and priorities and continuously reviewing objectives and goals in line with the Unit standards.
  • Plan, organise, supervise and assess quality nursing standards and ensure efficient and effective execution of the required tasks.
  • Accumulate information to report on work progress and use for decision making purposes and the identification of improvement opportunities.
  • Translate and drive adherence to the relevant regulatory principles and standards across the unit as set out by the SANC and other regulatory bodies.
  • Act as the liaison between nurses and other departments, whilst engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure operational efficiencies are coordinated to improve overall effectiveness of unit activities in line with hospital requirements.
  • Manage the provision of round the clock care to premature and severely ill new-born infants.
  • Oversee the Performing of essential medical procedures such as inserting intravenous lines, performing tests and administering medications.
  • Implement, monitor and control service delivery processes according to quality standards, policy, compliance and governance requirements.
  • Ensure the alignment and implementation of end-to-end standard operating procedures / processes in line with hospital policies.
  • Review existing unit delivery processes and suggest innovative ideas to improve and streamline processes to drive efficiencies and minimise redundancy
  • Organise and monitor stock levels to maximize efficiency, ensuring an effective stock management system is implemented in Units.
  • Ensure that clinical equipment is managed appropriately by staff and that care is taken in terms of prevention of damage to equipment.
  • Manage ward clerks, RNs, RNAs as well as ENAs within area of accountability and drive service optimisation.
  • Conduct environmental and patient safety checks within the ward taking prompt action when required, to meet set clinical quality standards per agreed policies and procedures.
  • Conduct ward rounds to ensure compliance with protocols, security, safe patient environment, policies, procedures and the Groups patient care standards.
  • Inform and educate patients about the Groups complaints procedure and The Voice patient experience platform.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, review, discuss and co-ordinate best approach to overall patient care.
  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with doctors and other professionals in terms of meeting the needs of patients and enhancing patient care.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Manager in identifying and implementing actions to improve service quality and problem resolution within the unit.
  • Advocate for and encourage the provision of emotional support to parents and family members of infants in the Neonatal ward.
  • Report, analyse and manage customer relations in the Unit including feedback on patient experience and satisfaction and implement improvement opportunities
  • Develop positive relationships and promote a culture of professionalism and excellence in area of accountability.
  • Contribute to a culture of internal and external customer service excellence, which builds positive relationships and provides opportunities for feedback and exceptional service.
  • Implement processes which build customer service delivery excellence and encourages others to provide exceptional service.
  • Build professional long-term relationships with internal (Doctors, Nurses, Hospital Administrators)
  • Work with internal key leaders to build an escalation chain for internal crises (patient care and unit ops related)
  • Collaborate with the paediatrics, maternal and any other relevant unit to ensure adequate care and availability of resources for Neonatal patients.
  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with doctors and other professionals in terms of meeting the needs of patients and enhancing patient care.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Manager in identifying and implementing actions to improve service quality and problem resolution within the unit.
  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with Doctors and other clinical and allied professionals with the aim of meeting patient needs and improving quality of care.
  • Compile and report on operational information to feed into management decisions and support the hospitals tactical strategy and efficiencies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science (Education and Administration)
  • Bachelor of Nursing Clinical Nursing Science Neonatal Nursing Science.
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRR) certification.
  • Basic life support qualification.
  • B.Cur Clinical Nursing Science Neonatal Nursing Science.
  • Nursing Administration.
  • At least two years of appropriate experience in the workplace as registered nurse.
  • 3+ years experience at a managerial/supervisory level.
  • Experienced in Neonatal Nursing/care.
  • Experience within a private hospital environment advantageous.
  • Advanced Midwifery.
  • Neonatal Nursing Science.
  • Child Nursing Science.
  • Medical and Surgical Nursing Science.
  • Current registration as Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
Remuneration:
  • Up t0 R 57 000 per month.
