Our client seeks a Vice President of Software Engineering to join their remote-based team in South Africa.Our client's mission is supported by strong and scalable software development that enables technical excellence, strategic development, and fast innovation.The Software Engineering Team plays a crucial role in this vision, ensuring that they produce the very best technology solutions and consumer products with their inventions, services, and deployments.As the VP of Software Engineering, you will be essential in driving continuous innovation, enhancing toolsets, and strengthening development processes. You will directly lead and mentor a leadership team responsible for all aspects of our product technology, including full-stack development, architecture, UI/UX, and embedded systems.This executive position will require a tactical focus on driving Agile production processes and throughput, as well as strategic communication and vision. Your contributions will help our client's team deliver innovative solutions to complex challenges across differing and unique customer deployments.If you are passionate about Agile software development, building embedded systems, and providing your team with the highest standard of mentorship, robust tools and processes, our client wants you on their team.Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to multiple engineering teams, guiding the analysis, design, development, and delivery of solutions that align with the company's objectives.
  • Collaborate with business owners, product managers, and other technology teams to define roadmaps, set priorities, and execute strategies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience working in and managing Agile software development processes, with demonstrated delivery of complex technology.
  • Track record of recruiting and developing talent in a global environment; strong management expertise and proven experience developing senior talent.
  • An expert understanding of software development engineering, with a deep understanding of modern enterprise technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile development concepts, methodologies, and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience directly partnering with product or program management teams.
  • Experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system and codebase issues under time constraints.
  • Experience managing global technology teams across multiple time zones.
  • A collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills to work across teams.
Bonus Points & Other Considerations:
  • Experience with a variety of web and SOA distributed technologies and platforms.
  • Experience with embedded and edge computing platforms.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerisation technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages.
  • Experience in consumer or retail technologies.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders at an executive level.
  • Drive performance management via communicating job expectations, monitoring performance, providing feedback and facilitating employee development.
  • Hands-on in setting engineering standards, coding, debugging, and troubleshooting to maintain a deep understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Evaluate and manage technology relationships with vendors, integrators, and third-party service providers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Represent as the business thought leader and advocate for Agile practices, promoting continuous improvement in delivery and operational processes.
  • Define, track, and report metrics and KPIs that measure the success and impact of your teams development efforts.
  • Maintain alignment with internal and external stakeholders, crafting clear and impactful communications across all levels of the organisation.
  • Assessing risk when making business decisions, ensuring compliance with data privacy laws and regulations, and safeguarding the company's reputation.
