Job Description


Our client in the Hospitality and Culinary industry, is currently looking for a Wine Tutor & Sommelier, in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.Responsibilities:

  • Lead informative and engaging wine tasting experiences, guiding guests through the estates wines with in-depth knowledge of South African wine cultivars and wine-making processes.
  • Conduct educational wine tours, showcasing the estates vineyards, cellar, and wine-making techniques while explaining the uniqueness of South African terroirs and cultivars.
  • Provide personalised wine recommendations during tastings, dinners, and special events, matching wines with food pairings based on guest preferences.
  • Educate guests on South African wine history, local wine regions, and the different cultivars such as Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and more.
  • Assist in curating and managing the estates wine list, ensuring the selection reflects the best of South African wines, while also sourcing rare and exclusive bottles.
  • Organise and host private and corporate wine events, from wine dinners to bespoke educational sessions for connoisseurs and wine enthusiasts.
  • Maintain the highest standards of service in line with the estates luxury brand, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience for each guest.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, local and global wine developments, and emerging wine-making techniques.
  • Collaborate with the estate's culinary team to design wine and food pairing menus for special events and tasting sessions.
  • Manage the wine cellar, including inventory control, procurement, and ensuring optimal storage conditions.
Requirements:
  • Formal qualification in wine education, such as WSET Level 3 or Diploma, Cape Wine Academy Diploma, or similar recognised accreditation.
  • Extensive knowledge of South African wine regions, cultivars, and local wine-making practices.
  • Previous experience as a Sommelier or Wine Tutor, preferably in a luxury estate, fine dining restaurant, or wine-focused environment.
  • Passion for South African wines and a desire to share that passion with others in an engaging and educational manner.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor wine education to guests with varying levels of wine knowledge.
  • Strong customer service skills and a refined sense of hospitality.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage wine inventory and cellar operations.
  • Enthusiasm for staying updated on wine industry trends, including developments in South African and international wines.
Remuneration and Benefits:
  • Up to R8 600 CTC per month plus incentives based on guest satisfaction and sales.
