DescriptionPURPOSE OF THE JOBTo direct and manage the operational performance at the business unit. Lead and manage the performance and development of the operational team at Dikwena Chrome.BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

  • Identify and assess level of issue based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to the business, financial and legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
  • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
  • Manage SHEQ compliance within the Department through effective use of the Toolbox
  • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to analyse, identify trends, initiate, mitigate, investigate and report SHEQ status
PEOPLEManage the Department:
  • Ensure an enabling climate/culture
  • Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
  • Labour complement in line with budget
  • Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Department
  • Manage performance against set targets and competencies
  • Ensure IDPs are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
  • Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
  • Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
  • Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
  • Conduct recruitment interviews
CUSTOMERSCustomer Relations:
  • Maintain and improve relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ensure customer and supplier satisfaction
BUSINESS PROCESSESProduction support
  • Set and implement operational targets and as per corporate strategy for the operations;
  • Develop and implement short- and medium-term planning to enable the production of world-class ferrochrome
  • Ensure the Operations are available and reliable to produce products in line with the business plan with regard to volume, quality and unit costs
  • Manage the role of the operations in the surrounding social and economic environment;
  • Provide input to formulation of BU and Corporate policies and procedures;
  • Contributes to overall performance of the Company through role in relevant task groups;
  • Provide feedback on operations performance to the General Manager and keep him/her updated on critical issues;
  • Compile and submit accurate reports for management and other information customers;
  • Set up annual budget and set expenditure requirements;
  • Monitor expenditure versus budget plans and follow up on budget deviations, implement stringent cost saving measures where required;
  • Identify, develop and present annual capital expenditure and continuous improvement projects and ensure timeous implementation if approved;
  • Keep updated in terms of all legislative issues;
  • Provide input with regards to contract requirements and parameters;
  • Liaise with relevant personnel regarding strategy to be followed and legal implications.
Maintenance Support:
  • To ensure that production units are available and reliable to produce products in line with the corporate objectives of the Company with regard to volume, quality and unit costs;
  • Ensure overall development and implementation of a maintenance strategy for operations in line with critical needs and preventative measures;
  • Liaise with production and engineering departments regarding maintenance requirements and prioritise maintenance activities with the maintenance teams to meet requirements;
  • Liaise with Engineering Manager regarding electricity reticulation and other critical services needed;
  • Ensure that legal compliance with regards to engineering and machinery issues is maintained;
  • Oversee engineering and production interactions with regards to equipment availability;
  • Ensure that critical machinery and equipment is maintained according to requirements and
  • Authorize and oversee major equipment repairs;
  • Ensure all safety mechanisms are in good working order.

  • Develop the capability of the production and maintenance organisation site-wide

  • Facilitate continuous improvement and operational excellence in order to improve availability, utilisation, safety performance, unit costs and product quality
  • Manage the Departmental budget
WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES:Skills:
  • Microsoft Office
  • Samancor Chromes Systems (MES, SAP, COUPA, IMS)
Knowledge:
  • Broad experience with production, maintenance and engineering
  • Significant level of exposure to, and familiarity with, Ferrochrome production equipment, processes and customer base
RequirementsMinimum qualifications:
  • B.Eng./BSc. (Eng.) Degree or National Diploma
  • Eight (8) years relevant experience gained in pyro-metallurgical operations (BOF, Steel Plant, DC furnaces, Sub Arc Furnaces)
  • Minimum of three years Managerial experience
Additional qualifications:
  • Masters degree in technical discipline, Business Administration or commercial studies will be advantageous
