Workshop Manager (Engineering Worksho) Global Grade 12 - BoksburgFull job descriptionKey OutputsWorkshop Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day workshop activities to ensure smooth operations. Manage workflow to meet production schedules and deadlines.Staff Management: Supervise/Manage a team of supervisors, automotive and turner machinist, and support staff. Train and mentor staff to improve technical and safety skills. Conduct performance evaluations and handle disciplinary actions when necessary.Maintenance and Equipment: Ensure that machinery and tools are regularly maintained and in good working condition. Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs or equipment servicing, ensuring OEM best practices are followed.Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and compliance with industry regulations and standards (OSHA, ISO, etc.). Implement corrective actions for any safety violations.Quality Control: Monitor the quality of work to ensure it meets company and client specifications. Investigate and resolve any customer complaints related to workmanship.Budget and Cost Control: Manage the workshop's budget and ensure cost-effective operations. Monitor expenses related to manpower, materials, and machinery, develop cost-reduction strategies without compromising on quality or safety. Manage work in progress. Apply Warranty policies and procedures.Reporting and Documentation: Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on workshop performance and activities. Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, materials used, and staff activities, Communicate effectively with management regarding any operational issues or improvementsOther Responsibilities: Develop and maintain technical documentation. Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies. Ensure compliance with intellectual property and data security policiesKey Performance Indicators (KPIs): Workshop efficiency and productivity. Quality metrics (e.g., defect rate, quality rating). Safety performance (e.g., incident rate, near-miss reports). Cost control and budget adherence. Employee satisfaction and engagementApply Barloworld-Equipment leadership philosophyQualification, Experience and CompetenciesEducation:Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.Grade 12 / MatricEngineering TradeExperience:10+ years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering workshop environment.8+ years of supervisory or managerial experience.Technical Skills:Proficient in using workshop tools and machinery (CNC machines, welding, Thermal Arcand HVOF Spraying, fabrication equipment).Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings.Knowledge of safety and compliance standards (OSHA, ISO).Good knowledge of engineering principles with focus on earthmoving equipment components.Soft Skills:Strong leadership and team management skillsProblem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlinesDesirable Qualifications:Certification in safety management (GMR2).Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies.Project management experience or certificationPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift heavy equipment or materials occasionally.Ability to stand for extended periods during work hours.Comfortable working in an industrial or workshop environment
